Annapurna Base Camp Trek in November is the best time for clear skies, stunning mountain views, suitable weather, and amazing scenery. I've done the ABC trek in three different months now, and November is the one I keep recommending to friends. Not because it's a secret. It's the opposite of a secret. Actually, the skies do something in November that they simply don't do in spring, and once you've seen Machhapuchhre at 6 am with zero haze, it's hard to argue for any other month.
The suitable weather with serene skies makes the month really worthy for the Annapurna Base Camp trek. There, you get wonderful opportunities to capture snow-clad mountains. The fewer crowds than peak season make the journey memorable, offering more time to gaze at natural beauty and local culture.
This guide from Breeze Adventure is based on my 2 decade long Himalyan trekking and tours experience. Here's everything worth knowing before you book, including the stuff most itinerary pages skip. Know about how cold it actually gets, whether you'll find a room, what you'll be eating for ten days, and more.

Why is November the best time for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek?
Snow clad mountains captured from Annapurna Base Camp
The monsoon ends by late September, and by November, the atmosphere has fully cleared out. What you get is week after week of stable, dry weather with visibility that stretches forever. On my last trip, we had ten straight days without a single cloud before noon. In April, by comparison, I got maybe three clear mornings out of nine.
The trade-off is crowds. This is peak season alongside October, so the trail between Chhomrong and Deurali gets busy, and the lodges at Machhapuchhre Base Camp and ABC fill up by mid-afternoon. If you hate sharing a dining hall with forty other trekkers, go in early December instead and pack warmer.
If you can handle the crowd, then this month gives you the best views and supportive trails than you get in most other months.
Major Attractions in November ABC Trek
November in Annapurna means magic that you can’t take your eyes off. The sunrise from base camp is the obvious one, and it earns the hype. You're standing inside a ring of peaks: Annapurna I (8,091 m), Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre, which somehow looks bigger from ABC than Annapurna itself. In November, the light hits the south face of Annapurna I around 6:15 am, and the whole amphitheater turns orange. People go quiet, it's that kind of view.
Beyond the base camp itself, the other major attractions are as follows:
Ghandruk village: This is a traditional Gurung settlement with slate-roofed houses. In November, rice terraces are in their golden post-harvest state. This is worth an extra hour of wandering.
Jhinu Danda hot springs: This is on the return leg. You will enjoy these natural pools by the Modi Khola river, about 20 minutes below the village. After a week of walking, sitting in hot water while the river roars past is genuinely one of the best moments of the whole trek. This costs 150-300 rupees for entry.
Chhomrong bakery stops: I'm not above admitting that the chocolate cake in Chhomrong influenced my route planning. It's a real cake at 2,170 meters. You can’t miss it, just take the win.
Poon Hill add-on: Many people bolt on Ghorepani and Poon Hill (3,210 m) at the start. In November, the Dhaulagiri views from there are as clear as they'll ever be. Add two days here, and you will see magical sunrise views.
Gurung Culture: The Gurung Culture dominates the ABC trail with its unique lifestyle. Their dress, food, hospitality, and local culture will literally make you stop and experience more.
Annapurna Base Camp Temperature in November
Annapurna Base Camp looking calm and beautiful in November
In November, the temperature is very comfortable in the ABC trek, but it varies by elevation. Let’s talk about the numbers people actually want:
Lower villages (Ghandruk, Chhomrong, around 2,000 m): These places get daytime highs of 12–17°C and nights around 4–8°C. It’s pleasant, you'll trek in a t-shirt most afternoons.
Mid-route (Dovan, Deurali, 2,600–3,200 m): Here, you get days of 8–12°C while nights dipping toward freezing by late November.
Base camp (4,130 m): This is where it bites. Daytime can feel fine in the sun, maybe 5–8°C, but the moment the sun drops behind the ridge, temperatures fall fast. Expect -5°C to -10°C at night, colder toward the end of the month. My water bottle froze solid inside the room in late November.
So, bring a four-season sleeping bag or rent one in Pokhara, the blankets that lodges provide are not enough on their own up there.
ABC Trek Weather in November
ABC Trek Weather-wise, November is the most predictable month of the year. During this time, rain is rare. Snow at base camp is possible in the last week of the month, but it is usually light. If snow occurs, it will be more fun to enjoy that rather than any hurdles.
The main hazard isn't storms, it's the cold snap after sunset and icy patches on the shaded stone steps below Deurali in the early morning. So, having the right backpack is the ultimate solution to protect yourself from the cold at higher altitudes.
As the altitude rises, some trekkers may experience altitude sickness, so be aware of this. Carry Diamox with you. Breeze Adventure also provides necessary medicines if needed. Besides, we offer an oxygen tank and trained staff to handle this situation. They will guide you on how to deal with acute mountain sickness.
ABC Trek Short Itinerary (6 Days from Pokhara)
This is the compact version I'd give a reasonably fit friend. This Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek is best for beginners as well as for experienced trekkers. Slower is fine; faster is asking for altitude trouble.
Day 1: Drive Pokhara to Jhinu Danda an dtrek to Sinuwa (2,360 m)
Day 2: Trek to Himaaya (2920 m)
Day 3: Trek to Himalayan to Machhapuchare Base Camp (3,700m)
Day 4: Trekking from MBC to Annapurna Base Camp (4,130 m). Sleep at ABC for the sunrise
Day 5: Trek from ABC to Dovan (2600 m)
Day 6: Trekking from Jhinu Danda to the hot springs in the afternoon. Then drive to Pokhara City
Permits: You need the ACAP permit (3,000 rupees for foreigners), and from 2023, Nepal requires a licensed guide for treks in this region. TMS is no longer enforced for this trek. However, rules may be reinforced anytime.
Rooms, Foods, and Other Facilities in the ABC trail in November
Breeze Adventure team with trekkers in Annapurna Base Camp
November in this trek is a peak month, so there will be crowds.
Rooms: In a standard teahouse setup, you often get twin rooms, plywood walls, a foam mattress, and a shared toilet. 300–500 rupees a night lower down, though at MBC and ABC in November, you may pay 500–800, and you will absolutely share. The catch in peak season is availability. Arrive after 3 pm at base camp, and you might be sleeping in the dining hall. A guide who phones ahead solves this. Solo trekkers get squeezed hardest since lodges prioritize groups.
Food: Dal bhat is the answer, and yes, the refills are free. It's also a smart choice at altitude. You get rice, lentils, vegetables, and sometimes a papad, cooked fresh. Expect 600–900 rupees, depending on elevation. Menus everywhere also carry fried noodles, momos, pasta, porridge, and pancakes, and everything gets 30–50% more expensive as you climb because it all comes up on someone's back or a mule. Budget around 3,000–4,000 rupees per day for food and lodging combined.
Everything else: Hot showers exist up to Deurali (150–300 rupees, gas-heated, sometimes lukewarm). Above that, wet wipes. Charging costs 200–400 rupees per device at higher lodges. WiFi is sold via prepaid cards on much of the route, but is unreliable above Dovan. The NTC SIM signal is patchy past Chhomrong. Bring cash for the whole trek. There are no ATMs after Pokhara.
My Honest Review
November ABC is a nine out of ten trek. The point off is purely for the crowds and the afternoon race for rooms. Everything else, the weather, the views, the trail condition, the food, is at its yearly best. Also, late November is less crowded.
If it's your first Himalayan trek, this is the month to do it. It will be cold enough to feel like a proper mountain trip, stable enough that the weather won't wreck your plans, and short enough to fit in a week from Kathmandu.
FAQs
How cold is Annapurna Base Camp in November?
Nights at base camp run -5°C to -10°C, and colder in the last week of the month. Daytime is comfortable in the sun, but the lower villages stay mild.
Is November too crowded for the ABC trek?
It's busy, especially mid-month. Trails are fine; lodges at MBC and ABC are the pinch point. So, book through a guide or start walking early each day.
Do I need a guide?
Yes, Nepal has required licensed guides for this region since 2023, and in peak season, they earn their fee by securing rooms.
Can a beginner do this trek in November?
A reasonably fit beginner, yes. The steps between Chhomrong and Sinuwa are the hardest part, not the altitude, though take Day 4 slowly and drink more water than you think you need.
Is there snow in November?
Usually not below base camp. Light snow is possible at ABC in late November. Microspikes aren't needed most years, but icy morning steps below Deurali deserve care.
