The 2-day Mardi Himal Trek adventure starts and ends in Pokhara. This is the shortest Mardi Himal trekking itinerary, suitable for all adventure lovers. The views on this trek are not to be missed. The trail starts higher than the normal Mardi Himal Trek. So, you still get spectacular views from Mardi Himal Base Camp but don’t get views from the lower region. This trek is just a bit rushed, but it is perfect for those who can hike at a decent pace and/or have limited time/budget and have previous hiking experience. The first day of the trek starts with a jeep drive from Pokhara to Sidding in the morning and continues with a hike to Mardi Himal High Camp. You mostly walk uphill for 6 hours. If the weather is clear, you will have a splendid view of the Annapurna Himalayan range on the way to Sidding. The trail from Sidding to Low Camp goes through rhododendron forests for two and a half hours leading to Badal Danda. The view from Badal Dada is amazing! You can see even the Annapurna Base Camp trail deep down below, as well as the two beautiful villages Ghandruk and Chomrung. From Badal Danda,  the scenic trail leads to High Camp.

The trail to High Camp is mostly uphill. It’s best to wake up early to catch the sunrise from Mardi Himal High Camp or the nearby viewpoint. Seeing the red glimmering Machapuchre peak and other Annapurna range peaks for sunrise is an experience cherished by anyone lucky to witness it. Mardi Himal Base Camp is about 2 hours from the viewpoint. There are not any guesthouses at Mardi Himal Base Camp now, but the local committee is building a few teahouses nearby. Our 2-day Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek is a spectacular quick trek in the Annapurna region. It is the shortest way to explore the beautiful Himalayas and save time and money for another adventure. The actual trekking portion of the 2 Days Mardi Himal Trek starts and ends in Sidding. However, if you want to trek on a different trail on the way down, our experienced guide will lead you on a different trail from High Camp to Siding.

Best Time for 2 Days Mardi Himal Trek

The best time for 2 days Mardi Himal Trek is from March to May and September to December. March is a highly recommended time for the 2 Days Mardi Himal trek because of the colorful rhododendron flowers being in full bloom. In winter, if there is not too much snow, this trek can be done and the skies are super clear as well. If there is snow, the trail can be quite difficult and even dangerous. The summer is not bad for the journey up to Mardi Himal Base Camp, though clouds can obscure some views. Few other trekkers go during this time and not many guesthouses will be opened on the trail, which makes it a bit more peaceful. The bright green hills and the vibrant seasonal wildflowers add a lot of beauty to the trail. Also, there is no risk of landslides or flooding during this time. If you love flowers and a peaceful trail, or if your vacation lines up with the monsoon months, then this season will be great for you. September to December offers clear skies and crisp views. You’ll get stunning views of the Annapurna Himalayan range and a surprising Pokhara city view from High Camp.

2 Days Mardi Himal Trek Difficulty/Fitness Level

This trek is designed for those who have short holidays, but still want to see the Himalayas up close. This trek requires basic trekking and hiking level experience. This is typically a 5-day trek, but we have changed the route to start at a higher place, so it is possible to finish within 2 days. On the way to Mardi Himal Base Camp, the trail is mostly ascending so it’s better to have some uphill walking experience. If you don’t have much experience, you can choose the regular Mardi Himal Base Camp trek or train yourself beforehand to prepare. This trek leads us up to 4650 meters within 2 days, so it might be difficult for beginner trekkers. If you have previous experience of walking in high altitudes, this trek would be a great fit for you.

To complete this 2 Days Mardi Himal Trek, you don’t have to be a marathon runner or expert climber. Basic hiking experience and a previous high-altitude trekking experience will make this trek doable for you. If you don’t have much hiking experience, we recommend starting hiking up and down hills or stairs if there aren’t any mountains nearby to hike in.

After having breakfast at the hotel, we start our scenic drive to Sidding. We drive through Pokhara for 10 minutes before arriving in the countryside. If the weather is clear in the morning, there is an awesome view of the Annapurna range from our windows. We pass beautiful local villages, including Lwang and Ghalel. Most of the people from these two villages are Gurung, known as the bravest warriors in the world. Most of the men from these villages have gone to serve in the British Army. They are also known to be very honest and strong people. We cross lots of little hills and arrive at the little town of Sidding after about 2 hours after leaving Pokhara.

Then, we take off from the jeep and prepare for the hike. Our porter will carry your things and you will hold onto your valuable/quick-access things (i.e. water) in a day bag. Our guide will lead you uphill to Low Camp. Our trail through the rhododendron forest is very beautiful. We have lunch at a local teahouse after walking for about an hour from Sidding. Besides this spot, there are not any other teahouses between here and Low Camp.

It’s so nice to walk in the rhododendron forest and see the other flowers blooming in March. We can also hear lovely songs from the little birds on the way to Low. After walking about 2 from the lunch place, we arrive at Low, which is a little town with 7 teahouses. After having a cup of tea and a short break, we begin our trek to Badal Danda. We have an awesome view of the Annapurna Himalaya from Badal Danda. After Badal Danda, there are not any trees because we trek above 3200 meters, passing the tree line. All that’s left are tiny shrubs along the way to the High Camp. If the weather is clear, there is an awesome sunset view on the way to High Camp from Badal Danda. The trail is open and not very steep, allowing us to see the landscape on both sides of the ridge. We reach High Camp in the evening. Have dinner and have a good night’s rest.

Wake up early in the morning (around 4 a.m.) and hike to Mardi Himal Base Camp with a headlamp. The trail to Mardi Himal Base Camp is mostly uphill, so we take it slow but steady. The trail is a bit difficult to lead on the right path. After walking about 2 hours from Mardi Himal High Camp you will arrive at the Viewpoint, just in time for an amazing sunrise view! We stop here and enjoy the sunrise over the Annapurna Himalayas. There is a little tea shop near the viewpoint, so we can enjoy the view with warm tea/coffee. Then, we continue our trail to Mardi Himal Base Camp. It will take about another 1 and a half hours to get to Mardi Himal Base Camp, which offers more amazing views of the Himalayas and a great view of Annapurna Base Camp from afar.

Then, we head back to High Camp, have lunch, and pack our bags. There are two trails that lead down to Sidding. If you are interested in taking the new trail, our guide will gladly lead you down the new trail so you get to hike in a different environment. The new trail is longer than the previous trail, so if you are not tired and still energetic, the new trail is recommended. Both trails go through the lively forest. After 5 hours of walking, we will arrive at Sidding. Our driver meets us there and we head back to Pokhara. Overnight at a hotel.
