Food and Accommodation

There will be a range of lodging alternatives available to you during the journey, from budget-friendly to luxurious. Hotels usually provide normal amenities in towns like Kerung, Shigatse, and Lhasa, but guesthouses in more isolated areas like Tingri are usually more basic. Tibetan, Chinese, and sometimes Western food is served at most lodgings. Noodle soups, momo (dumplings), and tsampa (roasted barley flour) are examples of traditional Tibetan cuisine. It is advised to pack some snacks for the trip because there may not be many food alternatives in remote areas.

Weather Conditions

The weather in Tibet changes dramatically from season to season. Between May and October, when the weather is milder and more agreeable for travel, is the ideal time to go. Nights can be chilly even with milder days, particularly in higher-altitude areas like Tingri. Wintertime brings with it sharp drops in temperature and the possibility of snowfall rendering certain roads unusable. No matter where you go, you should always bring layers and warm clothes because, because of its high altitude, the weather in Tibet may be erratic and change quickly.

Altitude and Acclimatization

A possible problem while traveling to high-elevation locations like Shigatse and Lhasa is altitude sickness. It's important to drink enough water, eat small meals, and give yourself enough time to acclimate, especially in the early days of your trip, to reduce the risk. To have a more comfortable experience at Tibet's higher altitudes, it's also a good idea to speak with your doctor before your journey about medication options that could help deal with altitude sickness.

Packing Essentials for an 8-Day Tibet Overland Tour

It's important to pack for the shifting weather and altitude on your 8-day Tibet Overland Tour. Choose layered attire for trekking, such as thermals, a warm jacket, and supportive shoes. You can shield yourself from the intense sun and cold with necessities like gloves, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. It's important to stay hydrated, so bring a reusable water bottle and energy bars for long stops. Remember to pack your medications, particularly for altitude sickness, and make sure you have all of your documentation and permissions available. Adapters and a portable charger will keep your electronics charged.
