Short Everest Base Camp Trek is one of the most popular treks to Everest Base Camp. Though you will complete the trek in just 10 days, you will not miss anything that a full two-week trek offers you in the mountains. You will feel the magical spell of the mountains as you wander up to the EBC, immerse yourself in the Sherpa people, culture, and wonderful lifestyle, enjoy the serenity of natural landscapes, and get inspired by the peaceful and spiritual setting of the Himalayas.

As the short trek does not have acclimatization days, it might not be a perfect choice for beginners. You should be physically sound and have previous trekking experience to make the most of this trek and avoid complicated situations. The trek is the same as the standard Everest Base Camp Trek except that it does not have acclimatization days. The trek is moderately challenging due to the high altitude. So, you can add an extra day to rest to prioritize safety.

Phaplu Everest Base Camp Trek

Most of the Everest Base Camp Treks are via Lukla by a 35-minute scenic mountain flight or Jiri by 9 hours drive. Phaplu Everest Base Camp Trek is an alternative route to Everest Base Camp. You can get to Phaplu both by flight and by drive. EBC Trek via Phaplu is a few days longer than through Lukla. However, it offers a scenic view of valleys, rivers, and terraced land along the way. The flow of tourists through this route is thin, so if you want to travel in serenity, this trek is best for you!

The trail is commonly referred to as the Sherpa Heritage Trail, as you get a chance to see the local lifestyle of Sherpa and immerse into it. From Phaplu, you will start ascending to Tak Shindo Gompa, crossing Taksindo La Pass (3,870 meters). Then, you will descend to Nunthala and follow the trail along the Dudh Koshi River to join the main trail of Everest. After finally reaching the Everest Base Camp and ascending Kalapatthar, you will retrace back to Lukla and then to Kathmandu.

Jiri to Everest Base Camp

In the Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek, we will use the memorable and traditional trail used by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary 70 years ago. Most of the Everest Base Camp Trekking Packages include a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. However, if you need more time to acclimate to the altitude and are willing to take a bit more of a challenge, the Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek is the best for you!

You have to drive to Jiri, the underrated paradise of Nepal. As many of the earlier expeditions began from here, it is also known as the ‘Gateway to Mt. Everest’.  One of the major highlights of this trek is a visit to Tengboche Monastery, which unfortunately got damaged in the 2015 earthquake. We will pass through several Sherpa villages and pay a visit to Thupten Chholing, a massive Buddhist Monastery with several hundred nuns and monks. From Namche Bazar, we will continue on the standard route.

Everest Base Camp Trek Packages Cost

Everest Base Camp Trek is the closest one can get to the world’s highest peak without actually climbing the mountain. Trekking only up to the Base Camp is way cheaper than climbing the mountain. However, the cost of the Everest Base Camp trek is not fixed, and it ranges from $1,200 to $4,500, varying on travel agencies and also the routes you take, the time you spend on the trek, the season you choose to trek, the outfitter, and the services.

The luxurious EBC trekking package and return by helicopter cost a bit higher than the standard. The total cost is determined by the requirements of travelers, and both low-price and expensive luxury packages are available for Nepal’s diverse mountainous terrains.

Which Everest Base Camp Package is the most popular?

The package you choose depends on the availability of your time and budget, seasonal preference, expectations from the trek, stamina, as well as desire for trekking. You can either go through the standard two-week Everest Base Camp Trek, which is the most popular one, or customize the package as per your needs.

Everest Base Camp Package through Jiri is less populated and desired by fewer trekkers, as you will spend more days on the trek. After the standard trek, the Short Everest Base Camp Trek is desired by many as you will complete the trek in a short period of time, yet you will get to enjoy all the scenic beauty and adventures the standard one offers.

Everest Base Camp Trek Packages Itineraries

Everest Base Camp Trek Itineraries are designed as per the needs and preferences of trekkers. Some are willing to spend more days with more acclimatization days, while others are short of time and wish to complete the trek in a short period of time without compromising anything the standard trek has to offer.

Further, the preference of those with high stamina and physical fitness to those with comparatively lower stamina yet a high desire to trek differs. So, you can choose the best that suits you from the available Everest Base Camp Trek Itineraries and live your dream. You can even customize the package as per your need if you don’t land on the package that suits you well.

What is the best time for Everest Base Camp Trek Packages?

The best time for Everest Base Camp Trekking Package is March-May in the pre-monsoon season and from late September to November in the post-monsoon season. If you are trekking on the border of the monsoon, remember that sometimes the season may start earlier or finish later, and unexpected rainfall may affect your itinerary.

Pre-monsoon (February- May) weather is stable and dry with clear skies, crisp air, and spectacular views. It would be cold this time of the year, so be prepared!

Post-monsoon (September- November) weather has less haze and clouds and provides a better view of spectacular mountains. From October, the flow of trekkers increases, causing teahouses to be packed, and frozen water pipes may cause frustration.

Winter (December- February) days are mild, but the temperature goes below the freezing point at night. Visibility is excellent during winter, and you can take a breathtaking view of the Himalayan ranges. The best part about trekking in winter is that the trails are less crowded than in any other season. Trekking is best done in the early winter or just before a major snowfall. You can trek peacefully and take the trail all for yourself. You don’t need to worry about lodging in winter and can even enjoy off-season discounts.

Monsoon (June- September) is warm but wet. This is best for experienced trekkers who love greenery and peaceful trails.
