Best Time for Gokyo Lake Trekking

If you wish to see the blue skies, mesmerizing white Himalayas reflecting inside the tranquil Gokyo lakes, autumn is the best time. If you are looking forward to the trails covered in colorful petals of Rhododendron blossoms, you must go in Spring.

Autumn (September, October, and November) is the most popular time for Short Gokyo LakesTrekking. This is the post-monsoon period. Hence, you can rejoice the best visibility. The Himalayas, Gokyo Lakes, and surrounding will be at their best in this season. Also, there are very few chances of rainfall and snow.

Spring (March, April, and May) is the time of nature lovers. This is the time when nature regains its beautiful form after the ruthless winter. With Spring, sprouts of grasses peep out through the ground and buds start developing into alluring flowers. You will see colorful Rhododendron blossoms along the trekking trails in lower regions. Also, you will see tiny wildflowers smiling on the ground. Also, the weather remains stable.  Likewise, the temperature is moderate to trek.

Winter and Monsoon are less popular seasons to trek. The uncertain weather poses a different level of risk and difficulties while trekking in these seasons. So, you must be ready with a strong mindset, good physique, and proper planning and gearing.

Difficulties During Short Gokyo Lakes Trek

Altitude is a major difficulty. This Short Gokyo Lakes Trek has no acclimatization days. If you are a beginner trekker on high altitudes, this trek will be very tough. Instead, you can add a few extra days and do Gokyo lake trek with acclimatization days.

There are some long days on the trek. Walking for long trekking hours over the rugged trails is truly a challenge but worth it!

Trip note

Fitness/Experience

This trek is designed for the well-experienced trekkers. As many of our treks lead us high into the Himalayas, it is necessary to let our bodies sufficiently get used to the altitude. It is best to take it slow to prevent altitude sickness.  The level of fitness necessary for our Gokyo Ri and Gokyo Lakes trek.  On average, expect to walk an average of 5-6 hours per day while on the trial.  Generally, the treks can be done with an average level of fitness.  More important than fitness or experience is one’s personal determination and positive attitude toward finishing and enjoying the trek.

Travel Insurance

We strongly recommend having travel insurance before going on a trek.  We do our best to take care of you, but something can happen that is out of our control.  In case of a medical emergency, leading to a helicopter evacuation, it is best to have insurance.  You are unable to obtain medical insurance in Nepal and must do so in your home country.  Be sure that your insurance covers accidents abroad and high in the mountains.

Domestic Flights

Sometimes Flights to and from Lukla can be delayed due to weather conditions and delays may last up to several days. If flights go smoothly, we will help arrange activities for you during your margin days.  In the case that you have a tight schedule and the flights out of Lukla are delayed, it is possible to take a helicopter flight back to Kathmandu for an additional cost.  Again, we recommend added an extra day to your departure dates to prevent any problems.

Short Gokyo Lake Trek in September!

I was in Nepal in November 2018 for Everest Base Camp Trek. And I found it very cold for me as I am from a warm country. I talked to Kishwor and he recommended that I go trekking in September. The Himalayas are very different in September. The colorful mountain flowers and little clouds in the sky makes the view much better. The trekking trail was so peaceful and beautiful. Gokyo Lakes are so beautiful. All of our team were very good. Thank you to the Breeze team for making my Short Gokyo Lakes trek a successful and memorable one! I can’t wait to go back to the Himalaya.

    Solo Trek to Gokyo Lakes!

Doing the Short Gokyo Lakes Trek solo can be a great experience! Walking my own pace, meditating with the best view, stopping whenever I wanted, pushing myself when it gets tough, and feeling the most pride when finishing the trek successfully!  For a woman, it can be tricky to find a trusted local agent. I choose Breeze Adventure and the services highly exceeded my expectations. My first communication with Kishwor was awesome, he understand all my requirements and proposed the right trip for me. He sent me the detailed itinerary with adding an extra day at Namche bazaar explaining step by step, the pre-training plan, cost details, and the packing list.  I enjoyed trekking the Himalayas and the lakes at Gokyo Village. I highly recommend Breeze Adventure for any trekking in Nepal. I can’t wait back for the Kanchenjunga South Base Camp with Breeze Team.

If you are a new hiker, please train well before you go for the Gokyo Lakes Trek. It is not an easy hike up to Gokyo Ri. Short Version Gokyo Lakes Trek in 2021.

I did the Short version of the Gokyo Lakes trek in June 2021. I was very lucky with the flight to Lukla-Kathmandu. The trail to Gokyo Lakes was so peaceful! All the trail was mine and the Himalayas too! The first week of June is the monsoon starting period in Nepal so I had to deal with the rain for 2 days but it was fun! I loved the wild Himalayan views and Gokyo lakes.  Thank you to our guides Ngwa Sherpa and porter Dawa. To be honest, I had the best time in the Himalayas. The trekking was a bit difficult without having the acclimatization days but as I had been to 4500m in the past helped me a lot. If you do have not previous high-altitude trekking experience, I recommend having day acclimatization at Namche Bazaar.  Thank you Kishwor for providing me with the detailed itinerary and the training plan before the trek. Short Trek to Gokyo Lakes at end of May!

I finished 9 days of Short Gokyo Lakes Gokyo Ri trekking at the end of May. It was starting of the monsoon in Nepal so some days were a little rainy. Very calm and relaxed, with not many trekkers on the trail so you can experience virgin nature. Our Well Experienced guide, Mr. Sarki, and the porters are real gentlemen and we become good friends. I felt always very comfortable.  Short Gokyo Lakes Trek is a little hard trekking activity. Almost climbing or downhills, please do not expect a flat surface. You must prepare your physical and mental condition for this trekking.  The view was so cool. I loved the view of Mt. Amadablam and the view from Gokyo RI was the best.
