Dhaulagiri Region Trek

The world's seventh highest Mt. Dhaulagiri(8167m) lies Northwest of Pokhara, 120 km from the Kaligandaki River west to the Bheri. This mountain was thought to be the highest from 1808 to 1848, although that honor has been held by Mt.Everest since 1852. This region is a very remote and virgin place in the kingdom of Nepal. The meaning of Mt. Dhaulagiri comes from Sanskrit where Dhawala” means dazzling,  beautiful, white, and “Giri” means mountain! The full meaning of the Dhaulagiri is “A Dazzling, white mountain”. This Massive mountain is visible from Pokhara, Ghorepani Poonhill trek, and Muktinath. This region is known as the quietest, most beautiful trekking region of Nepal. It is possible to walk without seeing any other people for several days. The massive Dhaulagiri was first climbed on 13 May 1960 by a Swiss/Austrian/Nepali expedition. The Kaligandaki River flows between the two giant mountain Annapurna I and Dhaulagiri, said to be the world's deepest gorge.

For all trekkers, the highlight of Dhaulagiri trekking is the superb mountain vistas and two high passes, the French Pass (5,360 meters/17,585 feet) and the Dhampus Pass (5,234 meters/17,172 feet). Before Crossing the challenging French Pass, we spend our night in the hidden valley. These two high passes offer mesmerizing views of over 15 Himalayan peaks, including Annapurna I(8091 meters), Annapurna II(7937 meters), Nilgiri South, (7061 meters), Churen Himal (7385 meters), Annapurna South (7219 meters), Tilicho Peak (7134 meters) and many more. After crossing the Dhampus Pass the trail lead long descent down to the beautiful Marpha village.
